Purpose – “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?  Run in such a way as to get the prize.”  This verse out of 1 Corinthians has been my mantra for over 30 years. The incredible depth to the simple concept “run in such a way as to get the prize” breathes meaning, motivation and most importantly, inspiration into every run or workout I do because it’s a simple exhortation to commit to the purpose of my effort and keep my goals ever before my eyes.  Later in the verse Paul goes on to say “therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly”.  In other words, the point is do what you do with PURPOSE.  Remember that every step, every stroke, every lift, every breath of your effort is a step toward tangible strength, endurance, health, proper weight.  It’s never futile.  So remember when you’re in the midst of the daily fitness grind, to “run (or bike, swim, jump, lift, sweat) in such a way as to get the prize.”  The prize for us isn’t an Olympic gold medal.  The prize for us is our body, our health, our life.  Commit to the purpose.
